![]() ![]() Tatoi is the house of the Hellenic Air Force academy. It is one of the very few museums housed within an active Air Force base. The first production SB2C-1 flew on 30 June 1942, and SB2Cs first flew into combat in the campaign for Rabaul in November 1943. You will have the chance to learn about Greek aviation history and the aircraft operated by the Greek Air Force. The CAF West Texas Wing's mission is to maintain, preserve and operate the world’s only airworthy SB2. It is the only Greek aviation museum with such an extensive collection of well-preserved aircraft. Many of the crews of the SB2C Helldiver nicked named this aircraft 'Big-Tailed Beast. It was meant to replace the Douglas SBD Dauntless as a much faster alternative to the SBD Dauntless though it sacrificed mobility. The aircraft had been produced from 1943-1945. This is a unique aviation museum in many respects. The Curtiss SB2C Helldiver was a rather unassuming dive bomber / reconnaissance aircraft serving throughout World War 2 beginning in 1943. South of the hangar, we will walk through a unique aircraft collection representing the pure jet era of the Hellenic Air Force. ![]() North of the Hangar, we will visit a collection of aircraft and helicopters most of them originating from the 1960s. The aircraft collection within the hangar represents mostly the WWII era, and the Korean War. Our leaders will then walk you through the aircraft discussing the operational history of each one.
